Enjoy the relaxing, rhythmic sounds, of toad and frog choruses, heard during the warm Spring months. These recordings have been specially selected for a consistent volume, free of loud calls and man-made noises. These longer tracks feature delightful favorites from East of the Rocky Mountains. The sounds, of American, Fowler's, Woodhouse's, Great Plains Narrow-mouthed, and Great Plains Toads, plus Spring Peepers, Mountain Chorus, Green, Bull, Plains Leopard, Blanchard's Cricket, and Green Tree frogs, were recorded at locations in Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Texas. American Toads, Spring Peepers, and Mountain Chorus Frogs serenade at a beaver pond in the Big Frog Wilderness of Southeastern Tennessee. This relaxing chorus is heard during April.

Toad Haven: 17:52 min.
Listen to American Toads with a background of Spring Peepers, Green and Bull frogs along a placid river in Pennsylvania. You may also hear a Barred Owl, some Canada Geese at a nearby lake, and the faint screeches of a flying squirrel.

Kentucky Pond: 21:53 min.
This recording was made at a small pond within the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area in Kentucky. Blanchard's Cricket, Green Tree, Bull, and Green frogs join with Fowler's Toads in a jubilant, yet relaxing, all night chorus in May. In the distance, a Barred Owl and a group of coyotes can be heard.

Texas Canyon: 15:18 min.
Abundant toads and frogs call from a canyon wetland in the Texas panhandle. Blanchard's Cricket and Plains Leopard frogs join with Woodhouse's, Great Plains Narrow-mouthed, and occasional Great Plains Toads in this pleasant chorus.

A flurry of activity begins at the crack of dawn around this larger lake. The shores are full of Cattails, which attract many Red-Winged Blackbirds, and provide sanctuary for American Bitterns, which are heard nearby. Eagles quietly soar above, as Cedar Waxwings line up on the tree limbs. Loons call loudly as Canada Geese, Ducks, and Snipe are heard in the background. As daylight fades to darkness, in the deep forest, two Veerys sing their last songs of the day. A deer can be heard, making an alarm call, as it passes through the woods.

It’s a sunny, warm, mid April morning in a remote Kentucky valley. Chipmunks, Blue Jays, Cardinal, Titmice, Wood Thrush, Flickers, Chickadee, are active. A nice Spring chorus of mostly permanent resident birds.

Elk have been reintroduced in the states of Pennsylvania, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee, Virginia, and others. During early autumn nights, the bull Elk make a variety of loud calls known as bugling. These 1000-pound giants, with massive antlers, bugle to attract cows and defend their territories. Feel the spirit of the wild return, as you listen to the musical calls of these majestic animals echo through the hills of Central Pennsylvania. Winslow Hill is the most popular Elk viewing area in Pennsylvania, and is where Pennsylvania’s reintroduction program started. Amidst a background of late summer insects and distant Barred Owls, listen to the majestic bulls bugle throughout the hills. Nearby, a large bull can be heard calling and attacking shrubbery. Listen for the distinctive calls of the cow Elk during the commotion. Later, two distant bulls meet with a clash of antlers in a territorial battle.

The massive bulls roam the forests, staking their territory by bugling and fighting. Hear two bulls meet in a nearby grassy opening as they wail and crash antlers in a long, fierce battle. Listen for the White-tailed Deer as they vacate the area. The wailing looser moves off through the forest and encounters yet another bull. This time he backs off, and turns directly towards Natureguy, just before he disappears into the darkness.

Valley of Giants: 19:30min.
On a crisp September night as the leaves are gently falling, the insects chirp, and the Southern Flying Squirrels can be heard scampering and screeching. The bull Elk are also prowling this valley as they bugle with a variety of tones.

Night Echoes: 8:20min.
After Midnight, as the temperature drops below 40 degrees, the insects murmur slowly. The wind is calm and it is exceptionally quiet. Barred and Screech Owls can be heard from far away. The bugling of the Elk can be heard echoing through the valley.
